I began studying at the Dartington Printmaking Workshop in 2013, became fascinated by it and have built a small studio at home.
I particularly love the complexities of copper plate etching – how acid is used to bite into very specific areas of metal, exposed by incising through or only partially applying an acid resistant ground, to produce a vast range of lines, tones, textures – and the completely unexpected, sometimes. Trying to get a lightness and life into each print using that complexity is a challenge I enjoy; my drawings are a starting point but the process brings it’s own pattern making, design led, “what happens if” playfulness to things too.
