Pencil drawing is, alongside wood carving, an abiding passion . . . to really look at something for the joy of it, to try to understand it, and to convey that joy and enquiry to paper.
I’m inspired by the natural world and the extraordinariness of everyday things, whether it’s a mole found dead on a lawn or friend playing folk music in a pub. I’ve missed my dream job as a ship’s artist in the age of exploration by a few centuries but, although the things I describe are not newly discovered, my curiosity and wonder in them remains undiminished.
Inspiring artists. . . Holbein, Tunnicliff, Thorburn, Lambert
